Subject: Repeal Bill Electric Vehicle Mandate
Dear Prime Minister Carney and Members of the Liberal Party,
I am writing to express my concern about the federal government’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which requires 100% of new light-duty vehicle sales to be zero-emission by 2035, with interim targets of 20% by 2026 and 60% by 2030. While I support efforts to reduce emissions, this mandate is impractical, costly, and risks economic harm for many Canadians. I urge you to reconsider or repeal it to prioritize affordability, choice, and economic stability.
The mandate imposes unrealistic targets given Canada’s challenges: high EV costs (averaging $65,000 compared to $45,000 for gas vehicles), limited charging infrastructure (only 28,000 public chargers in 2024 for a goal of 200,000 by 2035), and harsh climates that reduce EV range. Rural and northern communities, reliant on long-distance travel, face particular hardship, as do lower-income households unable to afford EVs or home chargers. The Canadian Automobile Association notes 60% of Canadians are hesitant to buy EVs due to cost and range anxiety.
Economically, the mandate threatens jobs in the auto and oil sectors. Ontario’s manufacturing hub, employing over 100,000, faces uncertainty as automakers like Stellantis delay EV transitions due to low demand. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump’s June 2025 threat of 25% tariffs on Canadian vehicles, partly tied to EV policies, risks devastating our $70 billion auto export market.
I respectfully urge you to:

1. Repeal or delay the EV Mandate to align with market readiness and consumer affordability.
2. Invest in hybrid and fuel-efficient vehicles as practical transition options.
3. Expand charging infrastructure and provide targeted subsidies for low-income and rural Canadians.

Canadians need policies that balance environmental goals with economic realities. Please act to ensure vehicle choice and affordability. I await your response.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]
